Full Description
Step off the beaten path and enjoy a day of meaningful cultural discovery. Your journey begins with pickup from Bayahíbe / Dominicus / La Romana (with extra cost from Punta Cana). Travel in a modern air-conditioned van, accompanied by your guide.
Your first stop is the Cueva de las Maravillas — an impressive underground cave where you’ll walk among ancient Taíno petroglyphs, stalactites and stalagmites, immersing you in the island’s earliest cultural heritage.
Next, proceed to La Romana where you visit a local textile factory. Here you meet workers, observe craftsmanship up-close and have time to shop for authentic handcrafted items.
For midday you’ll head to La Caleta for a hearty lunch of fresh fish in a genuine local village atmosphere. After lunch, it’s off to Altos de Chavón. Wander through this stone village built to resemble a 16th-century Mediterranean town: admire galleries, artisan boutiques, the church of St. Stanislaus, and soak in the magnificent views over the Chavón River.
Finally, the sweet finale — a visit to a local Dominican chocolate factory where you learn how cacao is transformed and sample fine local chocolate. After that, you’re dropped back to your starting point.
The experience is tailored for travellers who can walk short distances and climb steps; note it may not be suitable for children under 12, people with major mobility issues, or those over 65.
